Blood Pressure, Hyper-tensionOkay, so what is blood pressure? It is the pressure caused by your blood circulating against the walls of your blood vessels. Average blood pressure for an adult is about 120/80 mm Hg. So, what's high blood pressure? Well, pretty much anything significantly higher than what is considered normal.

When a person's blood pressure gets too high, it is called hyper-tension, and refers to blood pressure that is measured at 140/90 mm Hg or higher. There is often no way to tell if a person's blood pressure is too high unless it is monitored, and often people do not monitor it as often as they should.

While hypertension may sneak up on a person without notice, there are signs you can watch for that will give evidence that perhaps you have high blood pressure. Here are some of the more common signs you should watch for:

Signs of High Blood Pressure

Upper Cervical Care and Your High Blood Pressure

If you are experiencing one of the above symptoms, don't panic. While these may be symptoms of high blood pressure, they may also be evidence of something else, such as anxiety or whiplash. The worst thing you can do is take blood pressure medication. It may lower your blood pressure, but it will only cover the symptoms.

Of course, exercising and maintaining a healthy diet is always great, and it is always recommended to live a healthy life, but it's always best to take care of the root cause of your hypertension. Your high blood pressure may be the result of a misalignment in your upper neck.

When your upper two vertebra are out of alignment, by even ½ MM, this makes it harder for your cerebral blood to flow and it can raise your blood pressure. An upper cervical specialist can examine you, to determine if an Atlas Subluxation may be the root cause of your high blood pressure.

Whiplash Symptoms May Be Slight at First Whiplash

An injury to the neck caused by a sudden movement of the head, backward, forward, or sideways, is commonly referred to as "whiplash." While the term "whiplash" is most frequently used to describe auto accident injuries (in which a person is rear-ended, hit head-on, or hit from the side), whiplash can also frequently occur during ski accidents, bike accidents, falls, blows to the head, and other head/neck traumas.

THE MYTH: "If I don't have any symptoms right away, I'm O.K.".

THE TRUTH... After many auto and sport-related traumas, symptoms can be so slight at first, an individual may not realize he/she has been injured. Even if a person feels relatively normal after an accident, he/she should be thoroughly examined. Symptoms can be delayed for days, months, or even years.

COMMON SYMPTOMS: The following are symptoms that can occur following a head/neck injury (days to years later):

In many cases, more severe immune-related, neurological, pain, and disease conditions (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Susceptibility to Infection, ADHD, Seizures, Multiple Sclerosis) can result from head/neck injuries, sometimes occurring many years after the accident.

WHIPLASH FACTS

Two million people are exposed to whiplash injury (related to an auto accident) in the U.S. every year.

When the head is suddenly jerked back and forth or side-to-side beyond its normal limits, ligaments supporting the neck vertebrae can be sprained (over-stretched) or torn, forcing vertebrae out of their normal position.

In tests of low speed rear impact collisions, it was reported that the neck can be injured even in slow speeds accidents as low as 5 mph.

Most rear impact accidents occur at crash speeds of 6 to 12 mph - speeds below the threshold for property damage to the vehicle - but sufficient to cause neck injury.

Whiplash injuries to the cervical spine can occur in sports (skiing, hockey, football, cycling, ice skating, gymnastics, boxing), due to falls, and more!

University of Chicago Medical Center study links NUCCA care with reduction of blood pressure

Can neck injuries lead to high blood pressure?Researchers at the Hypertension Center at the University of Chicago Medical Center are reporting stunning reductions in the blood pressure of patients afflicted with hypertension following simple and painless NUCCA chiropractic care.

In the study – published in the March 2, 2007 issue of The Journal of Human Hypertension and featured on WebMD, Good Morning America and other sources – 50 patients with hypertension were divided into two groups of 25 each.  One group of 25 received a NUCCA spinal correction to the atlas vertebra (uppermost bone in the neck).  This vertebra holds up the head and only relies on soft tissue to maintain alignment.  Misalignment, also known as subluxation, usually goes undiagnosed and causes no pain or discomfort. The other group of 25 received a similar procedure but with no adjustment being given. Researchers called this procedure the "sham adjustment." Since the type of adjustment given was very light force, the patients involved in this study did not know if they were receiving the real or sham adjustments.

After 8 weeks of care, the 25 people in the group receiving the real chiropractic adjustments all showed a significant reduction in blood pressure compared to the group that received the sham adjustment. Those patients who got the real adjustment showed an average of 14 mm Hg greater drop in systolic blood pressure (the top number in a blood pressure count), and an average of 8 mm Hg greater drop in diastolic blood pressure (the bottom blood pressure number) over those who got the fake or sham adjustment.

X-rays confirmed that the chiropractic adjustments actually changed the position of the atlas vertebra among those in the study group.  The study leader reported that the procedure had the effect of not one, but two blood pressure medications given in combination.  And, his team reported no side effects whatsoever from the adjustment.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is widespread among adults in the United States. And, if uncontrolled, it can lead to heart and kidney failure or a stroke. According to the American Heart Association, nearly one in three adults suffers from hypertension. However, many are unaware that they are afflicted – making high blood pressure the ‘silent killer.’ This study offers so much hope.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic care is a maintenance program for the nervous system. If the nervous system is free of stress and operating at peak efficiency, it can lead the body to do incredible things. This study begs for further research. While man struggles to create new and better technologies on a daily basis, we continue to find that the human body is the greatest technology on today’s market – let’s take good care of it.

Migraine headaches linked to high blood pressureHow Are Migraines Related to High Blood Pressure?

A recent article in the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research documented the positive effects of specific, upper cervical chiropractic adjustments on a 25- year-old female with high blood pressure, also known as hypertension and migraines.

A 25-year-old female with medically diagnosed hypertension presented to an upper cervical chiropractic office for treatment. The patient also had symptoms of migraine headaches occurring two times per week. She had been taking Hydrochlorothiazide for her hypertension.

The Upper Cervical Approach

A thorough history and examination were performed and her blood pressure was 134/98 mmHg. The patient was diagnosed with an upper neck misalignment and specific upper cervical x-rays were taken to confirm. Paraspinal thermography, supine leg length assessment, postural assessment and blood pressure measurements were taken at each follow-up visit.

The patient received upper cervical specific chiropractic care for twelve weeks. By the end of care the patient experienced a significant decrease in blood pressure to 114/80 mmHg and also experienced a significant decrease in both frequency and severity of migraine headache symptoms.

This case study is consistent with past research that has looked at the upper cervical spine, blood flow, migraine headaches and hypertension.

More Research Linking the Upper Neck to Blood Pressure

Researchers at the Hypertension Center at the University of Chicago Medical Center reported stunning reductions in the blood pressure of patients afflicted with hypertension following NUCCA chiropractic care.

In the study – published in the March 2, 2007 issue of The Journal of Human Hypertension and featured on WebMD, Good Morning America and other sources – 50 patients with hypertension were divided into two groups of 25 each. Follow-up X-rays confirmed that the adjustments changed the position of the atlas vertebra among those in the study group. The study leader reported that the procedure had the effect of not one, but two blood pressure medications given in combination. And, his team reported no side effects whatsoever from the adjustment.

So if this NUCCA Procedure has been shown to reduce blood pressure, effect the blood flow from the brain in Migraine patients and influence many other conditions that effect millions of Americans...why hasn't hardly anyone heard of it?

Good question tell someone about NUCCA today!
