Sinus Problems, Sinus, Sinus Relief, Chronic FatigueSinus problems are not at all easy to deal with. They affect many people. One thing these people have in common is that they are regularly feeling congested or are experiencing sinus infections that may last for long periods of time, even years. The reason for this is that the sinuses are not draining properly when a person has a cold, the flu, or allergies. Other symptoms that go along with this are pain and extreme tiredness.

Medical doctors try to help their patients by prescribing decongestants, antihistamines, and nasal steroids. This costs $5.8 billion a year! Another option available is sinus surgery. About 500,000 people have chosen this to treat their sinuses in the USA. This can lead to complications if a person is not diagnosed correctly. Sometimes what appears to be a sinus problem is actually a misdiagnosed headache syndrome. This is true in as much as 90% of cases.

A Link to Chronic Fatigue?

A study performed at the Georgetown Medical Center revealed that there is a possible connection between unexplained body pain, fatigue, and sinus problems. This is something that had not previously been discovered. In this study, 297 patients were involved. Of them, 22% had chronic fatigue, 11% had chronic pain, and 9% had both chronic fatigue and pain. The discovery made was that one underlying problem among them was chronic sinus problems.

What Can Help Sinus Problems?

While this is very interesting information, a person may be wondering what can be done. One simple solution is to seek the care of an upper cervical chiropractor. We specialize in making sure the vertebrae of the neck are in proper alignment. If they are not, undue pressure may be being placed on the brainstem. This can cause all kinds of problems in the body. The sinuses may not be draining properly due to such a misalignment. Once corrected, our patients have reported a vast improvement in symptoms of sinus problems, chronic fatigue, and chronic pain.

Whiplash, Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Back Pain, Back Ache, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, accident, car accident, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma, Sports AccidentWhiplash is an injury associated with trauma to the neck or head, injury in a vehicle accident, a fall, or sports-related accident. What can help you make a speedy recovery? Ice is a great way to reduce the swelling or inflammation that commonly occurs with such an injury. It helps the area feel better too. There are other ways to help ensure a full recovery from whiplash and some of the effects that may develop as a result.

Injuries such as the ones mentioned above can cause the upper cervical vertebrae to come out of alignment. To evaluate and treat this, an upper cervical chiropractor can be of invaluable assistance. Why is this type of correction important?

The misaligned vertebrae in the uppermost region of the neck can cause a host of issues over time. For example, even a vertebra that is a quarter of a millimeter off can lead to symptoms. Vertigo is a good example of what could result from this type of injury and misalignment. The normal function of the different systems that convene here—like the vestibular system that controls balance—can be impeded and cause something like vertigo to manifest. An estimated 50% of those suffering from whiplash experience vertigo.

Upper Cervical Care for Whiplash and Vertigo

The good news is that with upper cervical chiropractic care, whiplash and the symptoms associated with it can be corrected, even eliminated. It is advised that this type of care be sought out as soon as possible for optimal results. Evaluations for misalignments include taking measurements to ensure accurate realignment. Very gentle adjusting is then performed by the upper cervical chiropractor. With the vertebrae in proper place, the systems housed in that area are free to perform their duties unhindered.

Caring for a whiplash injury is important. Ice the area to help relieve immediate swelling and pain, then remember to have your spinal health evaluated to prevent further injury or long time effects.

Whiplash, Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Back Pain, Back Ache, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, accident, car accident, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma, Sports AccidentWhiplash has been connected to a variety of disorders. This group includes fibromyalgia, non-traumatic chronic cervical syndrome, and endogenous depression. One recently published study found that 85% of those who suffer from one of the aforementioned disorders presented with sensitivity in the upper back part of the neck. This muscle is known as the capitis muscle. Those who also had a history of whiplash were more sensitive to pain in that same region.

Facts About Whiplash

Pain resulting from whiplash is due to injuries sustained by joints, ligaments, muscles, nerve roots, and disks.

Common symptoms associated with whiplash include headaches, pain that radiates down the arm(s)—also known as brachialgia—dizziness, vertigo, visual disturbances, difficulty chewing or swallowing, and more. Brachialgia, mentioned above, may be due to myofascial tension. Trauma can cause mechanical failure within the muscles which would normally allow them to relax. Muscle contractions can then occur. Each individual is different and symptoms experienced can vary from one person to another. Over time, new issues may also develop.

Spinal Health and Whiplash

Upper neck sensitivities, whiplash related disorders, and the symptoms related to whiplash injury make the case for caring for the spine. In particular, an upper cervical chiropractic can evaluate the uppermost vertebrae in the neck to ensure proper alignment. Whiplash injuries can often slide these vertebrae out of alignment.

When the incident happens, overextension of ligaments in the neck can pull structures from their designated location. Specific measurements and gentle adjustments can reposition a vertebra that is out of place. Realigning these structures relieves pressure put on the brainstem, nerves and other vessels necessary for normal function throughout the rest of the body.

If you have experienced a head or neck injury that has caused whiplash, come and see us at Advanced Spinal Care. An examination will reveal if the damage caused a misalignment that needs to be corrected.

Seizures, SeizuresRelief, GrandMal, Absence, Atonic, Tonic, Clonic, Myoclonic According to the CDC, 10% of people will experience a seizure in their lifetime, and up to 3% will have epilepsy as a diagnosis by the time they reach 80 years of age. As many as 75% of those who experience one seizure will have a second episode. The condition can be difficult to live with and even to manage. Seizures can take on different forms.

Seizure disorders are challenging not only for those who live with the condition but for physicians too. Pinpointing a singular cause eludes the medical community. New guidelines have been released for the approach to treating a patient who presents with a first-time seizure. Under the new regulations, it is advised that medication is administered to prevent a possible second seizure from occurring. Debates over the invasiveness of this continue. For many, a second seizure may never happen, yet they may be medicated for it nonetheless.

In an effort to seek a more natural alternative to the conventional treatments for seizures, many are turning to upper cervical chiropractors. Upper cervical chiropractic involves alignment of the atlas bone (the top vertebra in the neck). The role this bone plays in brain and central nervous system function is important. Should the vertebra be misaligned, it can affect the systems responsible for controlling body movement.

Clinical studies have assessed those who have experienced multiple seizures for misalignment of the Atlas. Those who received upper cervical chiropractic care were noted to have short term relief from the seizures, and many for extended periods of time. Analysis of the upper region of the neck by an upper cervical chiropractor can reveal if there is a misalignment. A precise adjustment is made to correct the position, thus relieving the brain and nervous system from pressure and communication blockages. Normal function can return.

Concussion, Head Trauma, Headache, Head Pain, Post-Concussion Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Traumatic Brain InjuriesWhat Is a Concussion?

The term mild traumatic brain injury, or MBTI, refers to a concussion. Trauma that causes this to happen can vary. Injury to the brain will be dependent on a number of factors, such as how hard and where the hit happened. After an incident occurs, there are a host of symptoms that may be experienced. Each individual experience varies. For example, some may lose consciousness while others may experience periods of being dazed or disoriented.

While these are some common effects noted among those with head trauma, there is quite an extensive list of other symptoms. Here are some of those:

Sometimes manifestation of the effects of a concussion occur later after the incident. This could be days, weeks, months, or even years after. This fact underscores the importance of taking care of the injury immediately to ward off unwanted effects that could present themselves later on.

The reasons for these types of symptoms and why they manifest later on has to do with the brain and the injury. For instance, if the blow resulted in the misalignment of the upper cervical vertebrae in the neck, a number of things could take place. Misalignment of the upper vertebrae, even by a fraction of a millimeter, can hinder blood and oxygen flow, impede nerve communication between the brain and the body, and cause other interruptions to normal and vital processes. If you have experienced a concussion, having the neck analyzed for proper alignment could result in quick relief from current symptoms and prevent future ones from popping up.

Ear Infection, Ear Ache, Young Child, Ear Pain, NUCCA Ear PainEar infections are the number one reason parents bring their children to the pediatrician, according to WebMD. Each year a staggering 30,000,000 million little ones are seen by their doctors for this reason. It can be difficult for parents to see their young ones suffering from this painful condition, particularly when it is recurring. Unfortunately, even with the use of antibiotics, the problem has not diminished. On the contrary, it continues to be a major health issue. What causes an ear infection to recur? How can suffering be alleviated naturally?

Within the ear, there is a tube, the Eustachian Tube. It runs from the middle ear to the nasopharynx. Should this tube not have proper ventilation, fluid can become backed up or trapped. Once trapped, the warm environment makes it easy for bacteria to grow and infect the area. Treatment is often a round of antibiotics.  For the infection that occurs once in a while, this may not become a future health issue. However, doctors have expressed concern over the use of antibiotics, especially in the case of recurring ear infections. For some children, treatment may be necessary as often as 12 times before they even reach two years of age. Studies show that this can interfere with proper immune system development and open the way for serious complications in the future.

Getting to the Source of the Ear Infection Problem

The good news is, there are other ways to help deal with the underlying problem that causes the fluid to build up in the first place. Often trauma at birth can cause a misalignment of the upper cervical region of the spine. This can interfere with drainage of the Eustachian tube. Through gentle adjustments, an upper cervical chiropractor can realign the vertebrae and allow for normal flow and drainage. This can be done without the use of medications. The adjustment is precise and, as mentioned, very gentle. Natural relief from painful ear infections is possible. Feel free to contact our office for a consultation.

Multiple Sclerosis. MS, Extreme tiredness, Dizzy, Dizziness, Weak, FogNerve Damage

As a coat protects a person from the elements, the Myelin Sheath protects the body's nerves. The special coating plays a role in nerve cell communication as well. When this sheath is damaged, serious issues can arise as the body deals with and reacts to the attacks. The result is usually diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Multiple Sclerosis Research Results

Studies have been conducted to test different theories as to the cause of the degeneration of the Myelin sheath and other immune and systemic conditions that result. One Italian researcher proposed that insufficient blood flow could trigger a chain reaction leading to the nerve damage. Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency describes how inadequate drainage of blood in the central nervous system causes iron deposits to build. The iron, in turn, can trigger the immune system to turn on healthy cells. The attack on the Myelin sheath sets the course for MS.

Recently a study conducted on this very subject was able to show that vascular conditions that hinder flow can result in Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency. What can cause the vessels to distort or impede blood flow? The researchers pointed to a misalignment in the upper cervical area of the spine. Correcting this through calculated adjustments can relieve the vessels and allow flow to normalize.
Seeing an upper cervical chiropractor can aid in determining if there is a misalignment in the C1 and C2 vertebrae. Through careful measuring and gentle adjustment techniques, corrections can be made to stabilize these important supporting structures. This, in turn, allows the region and its housed vessels to heal. With adequate flow and drainage, damage to the nerves and immune system has the opportunity to repair. Managing MS can be difficult, but having key structures in place and aiding normal processes to function properly can play a major role in treatment.

Traumatic Brain Injury, TBJ, Brain Injury, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, Head Injury Most people have heard that those who play football or are in the military are at a larger risk for mild traumatic brain injuries. Now, it seems, soccer has joined the ranks. The frequent heading of soccer balls (using the head to hit the ball) can cause some brain damage resulting in small decreases in coordination and thinking ability, according to a new study.

In this study, researchers used MRIs to see if any changes happened to the white matter of the brain of 32 adult soccer players. They found that players who were high-frequency headers (1,000 or more per year) showed some traumatic brain injury similar to people who were in car accidents. On average, soccer players only hit with the head about 6 times while playing a game. However, during practice, they may be heading 30 or more times.

Dr. Lipton, a researcher and medical director in New York City looked specifically at how much damage it takes to have a lasting effect. He states that multiple head injuries are worse than just one, so the more that heading is done, the more likely a person is to have abnormalities of the brain. So, what can be done?

Upper Cervical Care and Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries

At Advanced Spinal Care, we understand that a mild traumatic brain injury often causes the C1 vertebra to move out of position. This leads to such things as headaches and impairment of cognitive function. Even a tiny misalignment of only ¼ of a millimeter can wreak havoc on the body. This puts pressure on the brainstem and hinders the body and the brain from communicating properly.

However, this problem can be corrected. We analyze our patients to find the specific misalignment and then work to properly adjust the C1 (also called the atlas) back into place. Once this is done, the body can begin to heal itself. Symptoms of a traumatic brain injury can often be reversed, and a patient can get back to his life once again.

Whiplash, Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Back Pain, Back Ache, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, accident, car accident, Neck Injury

Whiplash injuries should not be ignored due to the fact that they can eventually result in chronic physical damage and even psychological pain. You can’t just “sleep off” a whiplash injury, or “tough it out.” Complications grow worse when a whiplash injury is not cared for properly. Ultimately, physical pain concerts into psychological worry or anxiety due to the effects of the pain.

Consider some of the consequences that long-term whiplash injuries can cause:

The NUCCA Technique for Natural Whiplash Care

The entire quality of one’s life can be reduced substantially by one whiplash-type injury. It can affect the body’s ability to heal, a person’s posture, and even normal head movements can be painful. Rather than ignoring the pain or taking medication and hoping it goes away on its own, seeking the assistance of an upper cervical chiropractor allows you to be proactive in the healing process.

At Advanced Spinal Care, we use the NUCCA method of upper cervical chiropractic. This begins with an evaluation of the position of a person’s atlas and axis (the C1 and C2 vertebrae). This evaluation includes a patient history, a physical examination, and three-dimensional x-rays of the neck and head. If the whiplash injury caused a misalignment, this will be revealed and a treatment plan customized to your needs will be developed.

Once the misalignment is corrected, real healing can begin. The spine will no longer continue to suffer the degenerative effects of an upper cervical misalignment. Plus, many other symptoms that can be caused by such a misalignment will be eliminated. You may be surprised by just how many nagging symptoms were actually the result of a slight misalignment of the upper spine.

Fibromyalgia, Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue, Always Tired, Tired

Fibromyalgia is just one of many conditions that can present with tingling and numbness in the hands and fingers. Even if you do not suffer from fibromyalgia, numbness and tingling in the hands or at other locations in the body are not symptoms to be ignored. Consider some of the following underlying conditions that can result in these issues.

Conditions Behind Numbness and Tingling in the Body

Fighting Fibromyalgia and All of its Symptoms

Regardless of what is causing your numbness and tingling, you will want to seek help to fix the underlying problem. Often, the primary issue is a misalignment of the atlas vertebra at the top of the neck. Because thisbone protects the brainstem, a misalignment can cause pressure in this critical part of the body. Blood flow may be inhibited, and communication within the body can suffer.
At Advanced Spinal Care, we can diagnose and correct this misalignment, and allow your central nervous system to get back to doing its job without this inhibition.
