If your child loves sports, there are some facts you should be aware of. Some of the most common sports for children to get injuries in are lacrosse, hockey, football, soccer, rugby, basketball, or any other contact sport. It does not take a huge blow or injury for a child to get post-concussive syndrome. What is this and how serious is it?
The Mayo Clinic defines a concussion as a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) that occurs from a blow to the head. It can be caused by a fall, physical abuse or fighting, a car accident, or a sports injury. You do not have to lose consciousness to be diagnosed with a concussion. Post-concussive syndrome comes on after the injury. It will usually occur within the first 7-10 days. Generally, symptoms will not last past three months, although some cases have gone on for a year or more.
If your child has suffered an injury from playing sports, you must keep in mind that a blow to the head is related to injury to the neck. Injury to the neck can cause problems related to the brainstem and spinal cord. Communication between the brain and the body is diminished, and it can cause lingering problems that go on after the injury. This is post-concussive syndrome. It shows up as headaches, problems concentrating, behavioral problems, and more. If you are noticing these things suddenly coming on in your child and they play sports, it is possible they have suffered an injury.
It is important that you get your child evaluated by an upper cervical chiropractor, such as Dr. Pete Tsiglieris of Redwood City, California. Dr. Tsiglieris is specially trained to detect these misalignments in the neck. He will use 3-dimensional x-rays to see what is going on in the upper neck area. Once he determines there has been a misalignment, he can go about correcting this and getting your child back to feeling like himself. It is a gentle adjustment and will cause your child no pain what-so-ever, but rather will help him perform better in sports and life in general. Call Dr. Tsiglieris today to set up an appointment.

There are certain things doctors look for that help them to figure out whether or not their symptoms are MS or another condition altogether.
There is a varied list of symptoms to indicate multiple sclerosis. One or more of these will always be present, but the manifestation of these symptoms depends on how severe the condition is. Symptoms can range anywhere from mild to severe, can persist as a permanent condition, and can last from days to weeks or even months at a time.
Here is a list of symptoms to look for:
Symptoms:
*For a more detailed list of symptoms you can go HERE.
These are the symptoms that you or your loved one’s doctor will be looking for. These signs are not always noticeable. However, it may also be that a person just doesn’t want to admit that they are having any problems. It is imperative that the person going through testing is totally honest with the doctor. If it is a loved one, try to build their trust in you so they will feel free to confide in you as well.
When you feel like you can have open and honest communication with them, encourage them to tell you about what they are experiencing. They may not be comfortable talking to others, and this may be a difficult thing for you to have to talk about. However, it’s a conversation that could help them get through these difficult times.
We hope that you, or someone you care about, will never receive a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. After reading the above list of symptoms, you may be thinking that you are experiencing one or more of them. But remember, this does not necessarily mean you have MS. Tests have to be run to eliminate many other less serious conditions that may cause similar symptoms.
Let’s also consider the fact that a dysfunction in the nervous system can show itself as many different conditions. The brain stem, spinal cord, and brain itself can be affected by misalignments in the upper neck. At this point, it would be a good idea to have you or your loved one’s neck examined by an upper cervical chiropractor, such as Dr. Pete Tsiglieris of Redwood City, California.
Such a consultation will help you to maintain your health and that of your loved one. Dr. Tsiglieris can evaluate the vertebrae in the upper neck for any misalignments that may be the cause of the symptoms mentioned above. A gentle and specific readjustment may be able to correct the issues you are having. Call and make an appointment for an assessment by Dr. Tsiglieris as soon as possible.

There is very possibly a link between the underlying factor in scoliosis and torticollis, and how injuries caused at birth can affect the upper neck.
Dr. Gutmann has been researching upper neck injuries in infants and how these can relate to the health of children. He began his research back in the 1960's. In 1987, he published his research highlighting the link between upper neck problems and how they can cause such things as ear infections, colic, torticollis, and many more common childhood problems.
In 1992, addition research on this subject was published by Dr. Biedermann. In combining the research done by these two doctors, you can see that they have studied over 1,000 infants. The studies showed a very high incidence of upper cervical misalignments. This was most commonly caused by birth trauma, such as vacuum extraction, forceps delivery, and even normal birthing when a woman is on her back rather than in a standing position where gravity can help. These are very traumatic experiences for the neck and head of newborn babies.
As a baby, if there is a diagnosis of torticollis, it is very likely that you will grow up with scoliosis. About 25 in every 1,000 people have scoliosis at a 10-degree curvature or more. Many people never even know they have scoliosis until they are diagnosed later in life. Even a curve that falls in the 7, 8, or 9-degree area can have a significant impact on the health of a person. Some people go most of their life without even realizing they have a 10-15 degree curvature of scoliosis.
What does this all mean? Well, if the head is not balanced over the spinal column properly, it can result in postural changes such as tilting of the head and shoulders, uneven hip alignment, and improper leg balance. When this develops in children and infants, it is more likely for them to be diagnosed with scoliosis when they get older.
To correct scoliosis, it is very important to detect the problem as early as possible. It is recommended that all children be assessed after birth and as they grow up to see if they have any misalignments in their upper neck. If any misalignment is discovered, it should be treated immediately. If scoliosis has already reached an advanced state due to not being detected be sooner, the misalignment should still be corrected. Exercises can be given to prevent it from continuing to get worse. If the curvature has been there for an extended period, it will likely not be able to be corrected completely.
If you are concerned that your child may have a curvature in their spine or that he or she has torticollis, it is a great idea to contact an upper cervical chiropractor like Dr. Pete Tsiglieris of Redwood City, California. Dr. Tsiglieris can get your child back on track and feeling better soon.

Irritable Bowel SyndromeIrritable Bowel Syndrome has many skeptics. There is no test for IBS (nor for fibromyalgia). These types of diseases must be diagnosed by excluding other diseases. Therefore, the doctor must do tests to rule out all other possible causes. Then IBS can be diagnosed. Symptoms of IBS include:
Brain imaging of these patients has shown a loss in brain tissue, similar to the study mentioned below.
Very little is understood about the illness fibromyalgia. Some ignorant people and doctors even feel it is not a real disease. Those that suffer from it know it is very real. They suffer from
What could help doctors and researchers to better understand fibromyalgia? Studies of brain changes and chronic pain may help. There is some recent research that suggests there is definitely a connection between the central nervous system and fibromyalgia. There could be a malfunction or dysfunction in this area. A study done by A. Kuchinad and colleagues compared 10 women with fibromyalgia and 10 women without the illness. A reduction in brain tissue was found in the women with fibromyalgia that differed greatly from the women without the illness. Another study shortly afterward backed up these findings, and yet another study showed that when patients with fibromyalgia were sleeping, their brain activity was similar to when they are awake. This would explain the unrefreshed feeling many experience due to lack of REM sleep.
Surprisingly to some, an undetected neck or head injury could be affecting the brain and is related to both fibromyalgia and IBS. Pressure on the central nervous system at the top of the neck bone (or Atlas), caused by a misalignment, can be responsible. The connective tissue can tear loose when one experiences a head or neck injury. This connective tissue holds the spine together. A tear creates weakness, allowing the spine to break down and lock into a stressed position. The upper neck is the most moveable part of the entire body, making it the most vulnerable area to trauma. If that top bone stays misaligned, you will find disruption of the central nervous system.
A common scenario we find in our practice is that a person will have had neck or head trauma earlier in life. This leads to the head or neck being significantly misaligned. Pressure on the brain stem results. Once this pressure is removed, the healing process can begin. The longer the dysfunction of the nervous system has been allowed to continue, the longer treatment can take. We have seen numerous cases of this in our practice, and misalignment is commonly the cause of fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome. After treatment, we have seen such results as:
Patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome see similar results. Once the nervous system begins sending the proper signals to the digestive system again, digestion often becomes regulated.
Therefore, if you have had head or neck trauma before the onset of your symptoms, upper cervical chiropractic could be the answer for you.
Here is a ‘do-it-yourself’ way to see if you may be helped. Upper neck misalignments often cause postural problems. So, stand in front of a mirror. Close your eyes. Bring your head forward and back up. Open your eyes. Is your head tilted to one side? Are your shoulders level or tilted? This is not totally definitive, but if you have had neck or head trauma and noticed a change in your posture, you may be a good candidate. We sometimes forget head and neck traumas if they took place many years or even decades ago. Think about times you may have been unconscious or have had stitches to your head. This means you have had some head trauma.
This is no reason to give up looking to the future with hope. There is a cause behind every effect in the body. Consult Dr. Pete Tsiglieris of Redwood City, California to begin getting relief today.

Almost Every American Suffers from HeadachesIn fact, 90% of those living in the US suffer from headaches. There have been many press releases and news articles that discuss how chiropractic care can help those that are experiencing headaches.
The Merritt Herald from Canada (July 24, 2013) states: “Did you know that one of the most common forms of headache is actually caused by problems in the neck?”
The American Chiropractic Association, or ACA, had a recent press release that starts by noting “If you have a headache, you're not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea.” It went on to report that research has shown how chiropractic care helps headaches.
It is quite uncommon for a doctor to recommend chiropractic care for headaches. The Merritt Herald article mentioned earlier illustrated this fact: "Unfortunately, the medical understanding of headaches often does not take into account the chiropractic model, which remains foreign to many within the medical profession."
After the research, note what Dr. Rothbart stated in an interview: "Some brilliant people have put their hearts, souls and minds to this (headache) problem and haven't come up with anything. All we've been able to do is treat people with an array of medicines, one after the other, and hope the side effects won’t be too bad. We couldn’t believe it at first. We’ve been able to put together a scientific explanation for how neck structure causes headaches — not all headaches, but a significant number of them. It's true that chiropractors have been saying this for years. Unfortunately, many (medical) doctors tend to have a jaundiced view of chiropractors, but they were right about headaches."
If you suffer from headaches, you could get the answers you need through a thorough examination of your upper neck by an upper cervical chiropractor, such as Dr. Pete Tsiglieris of Redwood City, California. This may very well put an end to your chronic headaches. Now would be a great time for you to take the first step, and contact Dr. Tsiglieris.

Migraine TreatmentThere are not many conventional methods for finding relief from migraines, even with all of the medical research out there. Most of the time the medication that is prescribed for this type of neurological abnormality double as antidepressants, anti-seizure medication, or medication for high blood pressure. That's because the symptoms of migraines are often the same as those conditions.
While the cause of this type of neurological abnormality is not known within the medical community, it seems there are many possible triggers. What triggers this type of head pain in one person may differ from those triggers in another person. Because of that there are often different treatments that may be used from one migraine sufferer to another.
The benefit of this is that, for example, a nutritionist might suggest to a person who suffers from migraines due to food allergies that they cut out certain foods from their diets. That will hopefully work well for them, but it won't necessarily work well for someone who suffers from migraines due to stress. People who suffer from migraines due to stress will want to try a more holistic method such as the following:
Now, there is a chance that those migraines you suffer from may be due to a misalignment in the top two vertebrae in your neck. It only takes a misalignment of ¼ of a millimeter of those two bones to place enough pressure on the brainstem to hinder the brain's ability to communicate with the body. The good news is that upper cervical chiropractic focuses on realigning those top two bones, also known as the upper cervical spine, so as to restore the brain's ability to communicate with the body. This will then allow the body to begin to heal itself, thus reducing and many times eliminating the frequency and severity of migraine pain.

Dwyane Wade's Migraine PainRight now, Dwyane Wade is enjoying his off-season, or at least he is doing the best he can to enjoy it. That's because the man who's led the Miami Heat to much success, including three NBA championships suffers from migraines.
He said in a statement, "Most of the time it lasts for four days, I do everything with the doctors, but there are certain things you can't control." But that's where he is wrong, because he can control them. The key is focusing on the underlying cause of this neurological condition, rather than on the symptoms.
If there is one thing everyone can agree with it is that Dwyane Wade is a very physical player. Because he has spent much time diving for balls in order to save it from going out of bounds or to steal it from the other team, he has suffered from many head and neck traumas throughout his career.
The more and more you suffer from these types of injuries, the more you tear loose the connective tissue that holds your spine in place. When that tissue can no longer support your spine, your spine begins to collapse on itself.
As most professional sports teams do, the Miami Heat probably have a team chiropractor. But Dwyane's migraine pain, and the migraine pain of anyone, is best dealt with by seeking out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor. They can examine the neck of a migraine sufferer and make any needed adjustments in order to realign the upper cervical spine.
A misalignment of only ¼ of a millimeter in the upper neck vertebrae, which are the top two bones in the spine, can place enough pressure on the brainstem to hinder the brain's ability to communicate with the body. Realigning those two bones can relieve that pressure and restore the brain's ability to communicate with the body, so the body can begin to heal itself.

That Pain in Your Sciatic NerveWe live in a world with enough technology and medical advancements that you don't need to go on living with that pain in your sciatic nerve. You can just take a pill, and all the pain will go away within a matter of moments. That doesn't mean the underlying issue that is causing that pain will go away; it just means you won't feel it anymore.
Of course, since that medication would not be addressing the underlying issue, your Sciatica would flare up again. But you would still have that bottle of pills to help relieve your pain again, until it comes back. The cycle will continue until you do something to make it go away, and that something is to entrust your care to someone who knows how to get to the underlying cause of your pain.
Now, that person will never give you a bottle of pills, rather than will address the underlying cause of the problem by examining your upper cervical spine. That's because an upper cervical chiropractor—a doctor of chiropractic who only focuses on aligning the top two vertebrae in the spine—is focused on partnering with, to help you regain full mobility.
When your upper cervical chiropractor partners with you, they are doing so for your benefit. One thing they might do is to give you a list of exercises you can do at home that will help you in the healing process. It is important, though, that you only do those exercises on this list that your upper cervical chiropractor says are safe:
This is not a full list of exercises you can do to reduce the pain of sciatica, but we want to give your upper cervical chiropractor a chance to tell you which exercises he or say are the best for you.
Whichever exercises you do, you will want to do three sets, once a day. Hold each of these stretches for 30 second and then return your leg to its resting position. This will help you warm up your muscle, as well as it reduces the pain of your sciatica. Stretching is also always good for increasing range of motion and joint lubrication, as well as delivering nutrients and oxygen to the muscles.
All three of these stretches should be held for 30 seconds and then you should return your legs to a resting position, Make sure to do three sets, once a day. This will warm up your muscles and minimize the pain caused by your Sciatica. Stretching also increases your range of motion, lubricates your joints, and delivers nutrients and oxygen to your muscles.

Mental and Physical PainNot everyone who suffers from whiplash will feel pain right away, and not everyone will feel that pain in the exact same way. Think of whiplash like that crack in the foundation of your house. You can go for years without realizing it's there, and the problems that crack creates may not become an issue until after you sell the house, but that crack will create further problems.
Unfortunately, if there's a crack in your body called Whiplash, you have to live with it. You may not notice it right away, but you will feel the effects of that injury at some point. What's worse is that not only will that pain manifest itself physically, but that physical pain can potentially cause psychological pain.
Of course, it's so tempting to think we can just use rest and ice to heal from Whiplash, and those methods can offer relief from the immediate pain. But they will not get to the underlying cause of that neck injury itself or any other potential injuries that may follow.
As we mentioned, the physical pain caused by that neck injury may only be the beginning, and that pain may cause psychological pain. Here is a list of ways that pain from whiplash can lead to a lower quality of life for a person.
And those are possibly just the beginning of the psychological pain that can result from whiplash. If that neck injury is left uncared for, it can lead to greater physical health problems that can very likely cause more sever psychological problems.
Though, the good news is seeking out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor can offer you relief from that immediate pain of that neck injury, as well as further health problems that may follow. A misalignment of the top two bones in the upper neck vertebrae, or the upper cervical spine, can hinder the brain's ability to communicate with the body. The breaking down of that communication system will lead to all sorts of health problems, but realigning those two bones will restore that communication system and allow the body to begin to heal itself.

We know all of the migraine sufferers out there want to find relief from their pain, so we're telling you about five ways you can beat that pain.
Now, the first four are prescription medications that are given to migraine sufferers. Statistics say that most people reading this blog, or at least most people who suffer from this neurological condition, will choose medication.
Of course, that's most likely because people are just conditioned to want fast relief, so they don't have to deal with the pain and can get through their day. The problem with that is that not only does migraine medication only cover the symptoms, there are also several negative side effects.
Now that we've explained the negative sides of migraine medication, let's look at the fifth choice—upper cervical chiropractic. In the Journal of the American Medical Association it was once stated “Headaches are not headaches at all but really a pain in the neck.” Seletz E. Whiplash Injuries. JAMA, 1958; 168(13): 1750-1755
That leads to the big question as to why most headache medication numbs the head. The focus of helping people finding last healing should be on getting to the source of the pain, not on covering symptoms.
Now, the good news is that unlike Migraine medication which always comes with the risks of negative side effects, upper cervical chiropractic has helped reduced and eliminated the migraine pain of thousands of patients. The top two bones in the spine are more susceptible to injury than the other bones in the spine, which has led upper cervical chiropractors to find a link between a misalignment in those two bones and migraine pain and other chronic headaches.
