Neck Pain, Spine, Chiropractor, Upper CervicalThe Health of Your Spine

When most people think of arthritis, they think of it effecting a person's hands or knees, but some people experience arthritis in their spine. Okay, we know that you may be unfamiliar with this, and that's probably because you've heard it called by a different name than arthritis of the spine. You may have heard it called one of the following conditions.

The Degeneration of Your Spine

Now, the thing to understand is that this type of arthritis is a degenerative disease, which means it will worsen over time. That process of degeneration will not happen quickly and can occur slowly over a 20 year period. It can not only take that long to occur, but it can take as long as 40 to 60 years to fully set in.

Of course, many people do not think to consider that a trauma such as an auto accident, sports-related injury, or perhaps even a birth injury may be the underlying cause of the degeneration of a person's spine. The result of that injury will be that the body will attempt to stabilize the joints by fusing the bones that make up the joints.

Your Joints and Calcium Build-Up

The body does this by moving calcium into the inflamed joint, so the calcium to cause those bones to fuse. That, of course, will lead to abnormal bone growth, thus causes a degenerative effect that will worsen a person's health over time.

For that reason, it is important to maintain proper joint alignment and movement, so as to prevent spinal degeneration. An upper cervical chiropractor can examine your upper neck vertebrae for any misalignments that may be the underlying cause of or lead to any further damage to your spine. They will then make any adjustments to your upper cervical spine, so as to enable your body to begin to heal itself, thus preventing the potential of arthritis affecting your spine.

Shoulder Pain, NUCCA, Upper Cervical, ChiropractorThat Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can mean different things to different people. It can mean your shoulder and arm are numb or they feel weak. It can mean you feel tingling and that you're experiencing a loss of strength in them.

Though, while there are several things that can lead to a weak shoulder, knowing what type of pain you have can help determine what is causing your shoulder pain. Listed below are some of those things that may be causing your shoulder pain.

Causes of Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain and Nerve Damage

While that shoulder pain can be due to damage to the shoulder itself, it can also be due to problems in the neck that cause nerve irritation. Those nerves extend from the lower part of the neck and extend through the arm down to the hand, so nerve damage in the neck can have an impact on the shoulder and arm. That means problem in the shoulder, arm, and hands may originate in the neck.

Though, in order to discover whether or not that pain in your arms, hands, or shoulders originated in your neck, you will need to entrust your care to an upper cervical chiropractor. They will examine upper neck vertebrae for any misalignments the may have resulted in nerve damage.

If they determine there is a postural misalignment, they will take a three dimensional X-ray, so as to get the best perspective possible of your spine. Then, they will determine the best way possible to realign your spine so as to remove that nerve damage.

Many times, patients will find relief from pain and improved nerve function after only the first adjustment. It doesn't always happen that way, but the more in alignment the neck comes with the body, the more the patient will find find healing.

Upper cervical chiropractors are able to accomplish this without your popping, cracking or twisting of the spine associated with general chiropractic and other manipulative treatment because of the precision with which they work.

There are many individuals that feel relief from pain and improved nerve function almost as soon as they are placed back into normal alignment. For others this relief may take longer. Once proper alignment has been reached the upper cervical chiropractor can show the individual some things that they can do to help stay in alignment.

How Is Your Shoulder Problem Affecting Your Life?

When shoulder weakness or pain is involved even walking can be painful. Also when a shoulder is in pain simple things like eating and drinking can become miserable. In addition to these things when there is a shoulder problem every movement we make can cause the pain to increase and the injury to become worse.

Shoulder weakness and pain may also start to interfere with sleeping habits. Every movement while sleeping can be painful and cause trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. Not being properly rested through the day will cause problems of its own. Shoulder problems are really something that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.

Shoulder Pain, Shoulder Injury, Pain ReliefSustaining Shoulder Pain

If there's one thing we take for granted, it's our shoulders. That is until they begin to hurt, and we realize we should have taken better care of them all along. There are many things that can cause that pain, but over using your shoulder or using your shoulder in ways you usually don't use them are the leading causes of shoulder injuries.

Of course, it is tempting, after sustaining a shoulder injury, to go to a medical doctor, but that's not the best thing you can do. When was the last time you went to your physician and it didn't end with them either prescribing medication to you, sending you to a specialist who then prescribed medication to you, or testing you for something and then giving you medication? Seems like the medical system is a little too reliant on the pharmaceutical system, rather than getting to the source of your pain, to stay in business.

The Cause of Your Shoulder Pain

Though, the one thing the won't do is address the underlying cause of that shoulder pain, which is usually do to posture and poor body mechanics due to a misalignment in the spine. That can be the result of the position of the head being altered, thus causing one shoulder to become lower than the other. This postural imbalance can then lead to the overused or unusual activity of one of the shoulders.

Though, the underlying cause of one's shoulder pain, which is the poor positioning of the head on the shoulder, can be reversed by simply realigning the head with the body. That means realigning the upper cervical spine, which are the top two vertebrae in the spine, so the body can be in complete alignment. This will allow the body to begin to heal itself.

Migraines, Headaches, ChiropractorMigraines and your Brain

If you suffer from migraines, it is due to abnormal brain activity. This abnormal brain activity is frequently related changes in cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) flow and blood flow in surrounding tissues.

A frequent reason for this change in brain activity is a misalignment of the upper neck. Misalignments of the upper neck can lead to changes in the fluids that flow to from and through your brain. There are also a number of external triggers that can set off migraines that you should avoid especially until you can address the underlying cause.

External Factors of Migraines

Food Triggers of Migraines

Keeping a Migraine Journal

There are numerous factors that may lead to these debilitating headaches, and these are just a list of some of the external ones that are in migraine sufferers control to change.

So, if you suffer from these debilitating headaches, but you're not sure what causes them, the first best step you can take is to keep a journal of foods you eat, activities you do, and other factors that may cause that abnormal brain activity to occur.

Of course, while you're keeping that journal, seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor, who will examine your upper neck vertebra to determine if a misalignment is present due to a head or neck injury.

Minimizing triggers is important but getting to the underlying cause is so much more vital.

Shoulder Pain, NUCCA, Upper Cervical, ChiropractorThe Source of Your Shoulder Pain

Last time, we explored a few reasons you might be experiencing pain in your shoulders. There are many underlying conditions that might lead to that pain, and it is definitely something you will not want to ignore or think you can fix by just icing it for a few days.

Getting to the source of that pain will mean entrusting your care to specialist, who understands the interconnection of the body any how the various parts communicate with one another.

Now, there are several conditions that can lead to shoulder pain. Last week, we explored Avascular Necrosis, a Brachial Plexus injury, and Shoulder Bursitis. This time, we'll look at a few more conditions that cause shoulder pain and explain why the best way to reduce and eliminate that pain is to focus on healing your body's communication system.

Shoulder Pain

Other conditions that might lead to shoulder pain include Osteoarthritis, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Rotator Cuff Injury, Septic Arthritis, Tendinitis, Tendon Rupture, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and Torn Cartillage. Shoulder pain can also result from an injury, such as a break or sprain, to the arm, neck, or shoulder. We'll explore those more in upcoming blogs.

Your Shoulder Pain and Upper Cervical Chiropractic

Now that you understand a little more about what might be causing that pain in your shoulders, it's important to understand the only way to find total relief is to focus on the source of your pain. Your body was injured, and that injury disabled your brain's ability to communicate with your body, and your body's ability to function properly.

The reason for that is dysfunction within the nervous system. Misalignments in the spine can lead to disruption of nerve flow and a break down in the communication between your brain and your body. You will want to restore your body's communication system by allowing an upper cervical chiropractor to examine you to determine the root cause of your shoulder problem.

Shoulder Pain, Upper Cervical, ChiropractorThe Delicacy of Your Shoulder

Are you experiencing pain in one of your shoulders? Can you think back to a fall or collision you suffered, in which your shoulder was impacted? Your shoulder is a delicate part of your body, and injuring it is not that difficult.

Though, fixing that injury can be a little more difficult, and it will take the proper care of a trained specialist. That's why it's important that rather than just hoping the pain will go away on its own, you take the time to get to the underlying cause of the problem.

Now, there are several conditions that can lead to shoulder pain. Over the next two weeks, we will explore some of those conditions and what you can do to experience permanent relief.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain and Your Upper Cervical Spine

These are just a few of the many conditions that can lead to shoulder pain. No matter the cause of your shoulder pain, the way to reduce and eliminate that pain is the same. Whether your pain is due to Avascular Necrosis, a Brachial Plexus injury, or Shoulder Bursitis, you will want to restore the body's ability to function properly.

Though, getting to the reason your body is not functioning properly means trusting yourself into the care of a trained specialist, who can help you restore the body's communication system. The source of your body's communication system is the nervous system. Misalignments in the neck especially the upper neck can lead to disruption in normal nerve and blood flow to the shoulders. Restoring proper alignment is crucial to the health and function of your shoulders.
