Conquering the Numbness and Tingling of Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is just one of many conditions that can present with tingling and numbness in the hands and fingers. Even if you do not suffer from fibromyalgia, numbness and tingling in the hands or at other locations in the body are not symptoms to be ignored. Consider some of the following underlying conditions that can result in these issues.
Conditions Behind Numbness and Tingling in the Body
Pinched Nerve–When pressure is placed on a nerve, the result is often pain. However, that pain can be felt far away from the pinched nerve. Likewise, numbness in the hands can be caused by a pinched nerve elsewhere.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome–This is a very specific pinched nerve. The median nerve in the carpal tunnel can cause pain or a tingling sensation in the forearm, wrist, and hand. While this is a common injury for those who work at a computer all day, you don’t have to be a data entry worker to experience carpal tunnel syndrome.
Herniated Disc–Disc refers to the spongy material between your vertebrae. If this material slips out of its proper position, the vertebrae will rub together. This can cause pain where the herniated disc is, but it may also cause tingling in the legs and feet if the injury is lower on the back.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome–This is the result of compression of the nerves and blood vessels in the collarbone area as well as the first rib. Neck and shoulder pain may accompany the tingling.
Fighting Fibromyalgia and All of its Symptoms
Regardless of what is causing your numbness and tingling, you will want to seek help to fix the underlying problem. Often, the primary issue is a misalignment of the atlas vertebra at the top of the neck. Because thisbone protects the brainstem, a misalignment can cause pressure in this critical part of the body. Blood flow may be inhibited, and communication within the body can suffer.
At Advanced Spinal Care, we can diagnose and correct this misalignment, and allow your central nervous system to get back to doing its job without this inhibition.
