Ear Infection Prevalence in Young Children

Ear Infection, Ear Ache, Young Child, Ear Pain, NUCCA Ear PainEar infections are the number one reason parents bring their children to the pediatrician, according to WebMD. Each year a staggering 30,000,000 million little ones are seen by their doctors for this reason. It can be difficult for parents to see their young ones suffering from this painful condition, particularly when it is recurring. Unfortunately, even with the use of antibiotics, the problem has not diminished. On the contrary, it continues to be a major health issue. What causes an ear infection to recur? How can suffering be alleviated naturally?

Within the ear, there is a tube, the Eustachian Tube. It runs from the middle ear to the nasopharynx. Should this tube not have proper ventilation, fluid can become backed up or trapped. Once trapped, the warm environment makes it easy for bacteria to grow and infect the area. Treatment is often a round of antibiotics.  For the infection that occurs once in a while, this may not become a future health issue. However, doctors have expressed concern over the use of antibiotics, especially in the case of recurring ear infections. For some children, treatment may be necessary as often as 12 times before they even reach two years of age. Studies show that this can interfere with proper immune system development and open the way for serious complications in the future.

Getting to the Source of the Ear Infection Problem

The good news is, there are other ways to help deal with the underlying problem that causes the fluid to build up in the first place. Often trauma at birth can cause a misalignment of the upper cervical region of the spine. This can interfere with drainage of the Eustachian tube. Through gentle adjustments, an upper cervical chiropractor can realign the vertebrae and allow for normal flow and drainage. This can be done without the use of medications. The adjustment is precise and, as mentioned, very gentle. Natural relief from painful ear infections is possible. Feel free to contact our office for a consultation.
